Farmington, Utah, In harmony States Lagoon is an lark park in Farmington, Utah, Pooled States located about seventeen miles (27 km) north of Attic wit Lake City. Lagoon is divided into five main areas: The Midway, containing the mass of the rides and an assortment of carnival ilk games and food outlets; Trigger Village which has several exhibits displaying foundation buildings and artifacts; Lagoon-A-Careen, a water park which is included in the bona fide admission price; Kiddie Realty with several rides for small children, and the X-Plunge Zone featuring more extreme rides that tariff extra. Lagoon also offers a full-usage RV park, a campground, and a shaded walking taper off outside the park that stays evident all year.

History 1886-1940In 1886, The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad built a remedy have recourse to on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. Simon Bamberger, who was edifice his Salt Lake & Ogden Railroad offerings from Salt Lake City to Ogden, Utah, was iniquity president of Lake Park and a 25% P. To increase passenger traffic on his pursuit he bought most of the original Lake Preserve buildings from the D&RGW and moved them about 3 miles (5 km) east intimate Farmington, Utah. This gave the residents of Preserve Lake City (and later, Ogden) a deduce to travel over the “Bamberger.” The retreat was named Lagoon for the small core of water located on the original forty acres (162,000 m²). Lagoon opened in Farmington, Utah on July 12, 1896, and included “Bowling, Artistic Dancing Pavilion, Fine Music, A Shady Bowery and Beneficent Restaurants.” In 1899, Execute-the-Chutes, the park’s first stir ride, was added. In 1900 guests began row boating and swimming in Lagoon Lake. Over hour more rides were added, such as the authentic Herschell-Spillman Carousel and Cagney 12-inch-evaluate Miniature Railroad.
In 2003 Lagoon well-known the 110th birthday of its hand carved carousel that was built in 1893 and purchased by Lagoon in 1906. The carousel consists of 47 animals including: a chicken, swan, snail, lion, tiger, a frog in inadequate pants and a bow tie, a sea dragon, a long-horned goat, a zebra without a saddle, a stork, a lion and giraffe. In the 1950s when a billow coaster caught fire, (owner) Robert Freed came down and sprayed the buoyant-go-round with water to protect its share-carved figures.
One of the most popular rides today was installed in 1921. This is Lagoon’s celebrated wooden roller coaster, designed by John Miller of Coney Archipelago fame. Miller gave Lagoon’s coaster plenteousness of dips and turns. Its highest summit is sixty feet, and the length of track is two thousand five hundred feet. The annoy lasts just under two minutes and the coaster cortege reaches speeds up to forty-five M.P.H.
In 1927 a 1.5 million U.S. gallon (4,000 m³) swimming team up with with “water fit to drink” was built north of Lagoon Lake. It was one of the first filtered swimming pools in the west, and was a cleaner different than swimming in the briny Great Cured Lake.

The 1920s and 1930s were current years at Lagoon. There was betting and horse racing there in the 1920s, but the Utah Declare Legislature put a stop to that only a few years after it began. The first Fun Brothel was built in 1929, along with many other midway shows, rides, and games. During the “Big Party” era Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Figure out Basie and Glen Miller played Lagoon’s rostrum show business.
1940-1970The park closed for three seasons during Universe War II. By 1946 the park was in bad condition and the Bamberger one's nearest considered razing it. However, Ranch S. Kimball and Robert E. Freed, seeing an superior opportunity, convinced the family to lease the deposit to their newly-formed Utah Recreation Corporation. Ranch Kimball served as President with Bob Freed serving as Secretary and Have to do with Manager. (The Freed Family’s Lagoon Corporation bought the reserve outright from the Bamberger family in 1983.) When the Utah Entertainment Corporation took over the lease of Lagoon, a Farmington hamlet ordinance prohibited African-Americans from using the swimming consortium and the ballroom. By the end of the 1940s, Robert Freed had fully opened lagoon to the wrathful community, and further extended this policy to the Terrace Ballroom (formerly the Rainbow Gardens) in Poignancy Lake City.

There were many improvements made by the Freeds, including the institution of new dressing rooms and a general refurbish of the pool in 1949, a rebuilt fun accommodate and the introduction of the “Dodgem Cars” and the “Lakeshore Tell” miniature diesel practise in 1951, and a new ferris wheel in 1953.
In November 1953 a fire destroyed much of the woodland, including the fun house, dance pavilion and the front consign of the roller coaster. It was quickly rebuilt to artless for the next season and began to surpass the approval of its main rival, Saltair. Many rides were restored, rebuilt, or replaced, and a few new rides were added. In 1956, Fuss over Gooseland, Lagoon’s first themed locality, was opened. It featured rides only for children, was added between the Midway and the swimming wading pool.

From the mid 1950s into the 1960s Lagoon made many improvements. A showboat was added to the lake, and label-new fun house was built, which featured such attractions as a multi-lane Amazon slide; mazes, mirrors, catch courses and mystery rooms; a muscular turntable which flung its riders off at gigantic velocity; revolving barrels; and the ubiquitous jets of air - activated by a human wise guy - which startled those who were unfortunate enough to stand over them. There was also a mini-car oppress added in 1960, followed by the “Organize Scrambler,” spook dwelling-place, I.Q. Zoo, and shooting gallery in 1961. The first Imprudent Mouse ride came in 1965. On the Midway, groups like the Margin Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Kingston Trilogy and Johnny Cash drew the crowds to the bandstand.
The Strand Boys made mention of the park in their performance titled “Salt Lake Burgh” on their 1965 Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!) album. The Rolling Stones concert at Lagoon was in July of 1966.

Sound was loud and distorted on this clip but it was a great performance by Dead Steel Mill.
